Charleston County Public Works Department is looking for a highly motivated, professional individual to join our team! This position is primarily responsible for departmental human resources tasks/functions to support the employees of the department as well as other related tasks/duties.

HIRING SALARY: $20.40 to $28.63 (Salary dependent on applicant's qualifications)


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, process, record, and monitor personnel actions and associated paperwork for the Department's assigned 246 employees
  • Process payroll for the entire Department to include: entering payroll, proofing time reports, correcting errors, and distributing time sheets, pay checks, and W2s
  • Plan, coordinate, and attend recruiting, community, and employee events

Oversee employment process to include reviewing applications and forwarding to the hiring manager, scheduling interviews, and completing reference checks Monitor new hire Onboarding process; assist employees as needed with assigned tasks and benefit selections
Assist employees as needed with online orientation and other mandatory training courses
Communicate professionally (both verbally and in writing) to employees, new hires, applicants, management, and other departments
Serve as liaison between the Department and other County Departments related to payroll or personnel issues
Perform other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of this classification
May be designated to report to work during hazardous weather or emergency conditions

Minimum Qualifications

Administrative Services Coordinator I:

  • High school diploma (Or GED), Associate degree preferred
  • Three (3) years of experience in Human Resource field (or equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities)

Administrative Services Coordinator II:

  • High school diploma (Or GED), Associate degree preferred
  • Five (5) years of experience in Human Resource field (or equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Establish and maintain clear, open minded, trustworthy, bias-free,

and customer-focused communication

  • Sound judgement and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential issues
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties/responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail according to time sensitive deadlines
  • Able to adapt to a work environment that may change day-to-day requiring quick departure and reorganization of one's schedule
  • Demonstrate ability to safeguard confidential information and use it or disclose it only as expressly authorized or specifically required in the course of performing duties
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office software products
  • A valid SC driver's license or the ability to obtain one upon acceptance of the position is required
