This position is responsible for providing a nurturing environment for the health and physical development of children (newborns/infant/toddler/up to five years of age whose families are involved in substance abuse treatment programs.
Hiring Hourly: $15.00
Continuation of employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding from service, program and agency earnings. OPEN UNTIL FILLED - APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELY, 12/31/2023
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include:
- Monitoring for developmental delays at each child's milestone
- Providing a consistent, predictable and enjoyable classroom routine, cultural enrichment and activities to foster social, emotional, cognitive and physical health/wellness
- Communicate with parents to explore child's development/progress or delays
- Assist children in developing good behavior, positive communication skills, self-esteem and therapeutic play
- Ability to maintain hygiene of infants and toddlers by diaper changing, reporting, and documenting outcomes
- Prepare daily parent information sheet of each child's day
- Maintain regulatory standards set forth by the Department of Social Services daily
- Participate in training sessions as outlined by the Department of Social Services (15 CEU's) annually, participate in annual DSS classroom surveys,
Minimum Qualifications
- Position requires a high school diploma (or GED) supplemented by three (3) years of related experience. Associate's Degree/Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Child Development preferred; Bachelor's degree preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to become a Substance Abuse Specialist within one year of hire
- Ability to work with chemically dependent patients and their children concerning parenting issues from an objective, non-judgmental perspective, while maintaining confidentiality is mandatory
- Ability to utilize assessment tools to gather developmental data on each child
- Ability to work within an interdisciplinary treatment team with nursing, counselors, development specialists
- Ability to gain certification in parenting through an online curriculum
- Prior experience providing childcare services in a group setting is highly desired
- Valid SC driver's license in good standing with the Department of Motor Vehicles
