Code Enforcement Officer (Arborist)

Hiring Salary Range: $34,694 - $44,204 (Estimated Annual Salary)

Duties and Responsibilities
This position will work directly with customers and other staff members to administer the Charleston County Tree Protection and Preservation Ordinance by responding to inquiries related to tree care best management practices, forestry, Zoning regulations, and permitting; resolving Zoning and environmental violations; and, reviewing development plans for compliance with the Ordinance. This position will also be responsible for conducting and coordinating site inspections in a variety of environmental conditions; coordinating code enforcement actions with the public, other County departments, law enforcement, and local and State government agencies; representing the County in cases that may require public hearing or legal action; and performing other related work as assigned. Applicants should possess technical skills in order to research property records, applicable codes, and other pertinent information as well as to document inspections and permits.
Graduation from High School or possession of a GED, a Degree in Forestry or a related field, and 2 years of experience in Arboriculture or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work, are preferred. Within one year of employment, this position may be required to become a Certified Arborist and complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) courses required to work in the Emergency Operations Center, when activated.
