This is a very responsible position with the principal function involving coordinating the release of timely, accurate information to news media and the public regarding matters that affect the community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: establishing, moderating, and maintaining public information forums to facilitate responsible exchanges with the community; fostering positive public relations through transparency in reporting matters of interest while maintaining appropriate safeguards on privacy and pending matters; responding to general requests for information from any source which may require research, preparing reports/responses, completing surveys, coordinating referrals, obtaining statistical information, etc.; coordinating media activities of the Sheriff's Office; responding to/coordinating Freedom of Information Act requests; managing reporting on major events/incidents; supervising office staff; and other duties as assigned. This position reports to work during hazardous weather and emergency conditions.
STARTING HOURLY RANGE: $42.35 - $47.37

Duties and Responsibilities
This position requires significant attention to detail, high degree of inventiveness, and innovation. Ability to work independently, and excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills are required. Ability to convey the agency's message in a professional and mature manner is a must.
Minimum Qualifications
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, English, Journalism or Public Relations, supplemented by five years or more of experience in public relations, journalism, or mass communication with 3 of the 5 years working in a Law Enforcement agency preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in PC applications using Microsoft Office, smart phone, audio equipment, camera, video, video editing and personal computer operations, and the Internet. Experience with Adobe Suite is a plus. Proficiency in both English and Spanish (written and verbal) is preferred. Must complete NCIC training within 6 months of hire.
